The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) on Friday blocked the video-sharing app TikTok for “immoral and indecent” content.
According to a press release, PTA issued a “final notice” to the app in response to “complaints” and “the nature of content permanently posted on TikTok”.
The PTA said it had been given “enough time” to respond to the Tiktok and follow instructions to effectively moderate “illegal online content.”

The warning came after Pakistan’s current series of apps was blocked.
Pakistan’s telecom regulator has issued a “final warning” threatening to ban complaints of “immoral, obscene and nonsensical content”.
The regulator has blocked the live streaming app Bigo on the same basis.
According to analytics, TikTok was installed 43 million times in Pakistan. This made it the 12th largest app market in terms of installation. TikTok has been installed a total of 2.2 billion times on Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store and in the world.

Pakistan has become the only state-of-the-art company to take action against the viral video app, which has been cracked down on by governments from India and Australia to the United States. Concerns about the app’s Chinese owners range from privacy and security concerns to the nature of the content shared.
Reportedly, this decision was taken after taking interest in the case of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan. He instructed the telecom authority to discourage illegal articles, according to the news agency.
