What is Literacy Rate?
Generally, the meaning of literacy is defined as the ability to identify, interpret, communicate, and compute, some written material associated with varying contexts. In short, it’s all-around education. Education gives us knowledge of the world around us and what’s happening in it. Yes it is right literacy rate is not complete determination scale of any nation’s success but it has a big role in it from base to top.

Literacy Rate in Pakistan
Just like a varied proportion of developmental projects in Pakistan, the literacy rate in Pakistan is also varied with the highest percentage of 85 in Islamabad while the lowest percentage of 23 in Tougher. According to the 2018 educational report, the overall literacy rate of Pakistan is 62.3 percent with Azad Kashmir has the highest rate of 74 percent in terms of first-scale divisions. While 94 million people can speak English as a primary or secondary language which is nearly 49 percent of the total population.

Literacy History in Pakistan
When Pakistan got independence from the United Kingdom, at that time the literacy rate of Pakistan was merely equal to 17 percent while not more than 3 to 5 percent of people could understand English.
Today Pakistan:
Today Pakistan is producing more than half-million graduates per year with thousands of doctors, engineers, and IT specialists. Today literacy rate in Pakistan is 62.3%. Despite these all big numbers, Pakistan has one of the lowest literacy rates in the world. There is a need for large scale reforms to encounter this problem.
